Masterpiece Carving! Museum quality Sculpture!
Pits Qimirpik's tragic death only a few short weeks ago, has the Inuit art world wheeling.
Pits and his son had a boating accident. His son's body was immediately recovered.
As of Nov 1, 2024 Pits has not been found after days of search and rescue efforts.
I knew Pits for decades.
We talked frequently.
He often carved his magnificent eagles and his owls for me at my request.
The Inuit carvers have lost a Master artist.
He will be difficult if not impossible to replace.
His sculptures were immaculate, stoic and highly spirited.
They are now part of his legacy and I will remember Pits and his large menagerie of Owls and Eagles with sadness but also joy.
This lime green stone is one of my favourite colours.
Pits had a knack for finding the most unusual colours of stone for his pieces.
Green stone kissed with pastel pink and lavender.
Deep chocolate browns!
Shrek will be one of the last representatives of Pits recent work.
Shrek is the poster child for all of Pits' owls.
Especially those large eyes, masked face and perfectly carved beak and tongue.
I will miss Pitseolak Qimirpik.
