MASTERPIECE CARVING
Behold the Ancient Mariner!
Languishing on the ice, basking in the Arctic sun, this weathered warrior flaunts his dangerous tusks, discouraging attack by potential foe.
The minute fissures and irregularities of the whale bone pockmark the hide of the walrus. The small widespread eyes peer at us with eternal wisdom. What hunter would dare to approach this noble creature with ill will in their heart?
I have seen many walrus carvings over the years. Manasie has an uncanny ability to reinvent conventional Arctic animal symbols into world class Masterpiece sculptures.
This walrus is no exception. The sumptuous whalebone contrasts the white limestone “ice” upon which this noble sea mammal rests. The image is sublime... modern elements with a minimalist touch.
Manasie Akpaliapik has had many prestigious commissions, including presentations in the National Art Museum of Canada in Ottawa.
He resides in the exclusive circle of premier Master carvers shared only with Paul Maliki and Abraham Ruben.
This is your opportunity to cherish and possess a masterpiece by one of the top three Inuit artists in the world.
I am so honoured to be able to obtain these elusive carvings from Manasie for my gallery.
