MASTERPIECE STATUS
This piece took us 2 years to get since the last one he made.
Life in an Igloo, memorializes a moment in the life of a traditional Inuit men. In this scene, they struggle to build an igloo to shelter himself from the harsh Northern night. Their sled dog and his hunted “kill” are nearby.
This is how Jimmy lived his traditional life as a boy. He actually was raised in an Igloo with his family before settling to Sanikiluaq.
This is a multi media piece. The stone is tenderly polished to a high glossy finish. The light that emanates from the stone focuses the eye on the men and their canine companion. Nearby lies the caribou antler sled which holds the mens’ precious cargo.
The viewer hungrily searches for all the details in this piece. It is the detail which makes this piece so magical!
Jimmy Iqaluk is in the top five Inuit artists in Canada.
Be assured, when Jimmy retires from carving, his works will be the centrepiece of any auction house. Their Masterpiece status ensures that over the years these carvings will increase in their monetary value.
