One of Master Carver Toonoo Sharky's Finest Sculptures

It comes as no surprise to my clients to hear me say that Toonoo Sharky is high on my list of favourite artists. He has earned that esteem because he consistently produces carvings that are imaginative, innovative and possess a beauty that is difficult to describe in words.

A picture really is worth a thousand words.

You may have noticed that I immediately placed two images of this Toonoo carving in my slideshow.

I reserve my slideshow for exhibition pieces, museum quality pieces and FINALLY those carvings that leave me “gob smacked” as the British say!

All this explanation to say that....... in my 15 years as the owner and curator of Canada’s largest and most sought after Inuit art gallery, this bird is, in my opinion, the most exquisite Toonoo Sharky sculpture I have ever seen!!!

Why?!

It is PERFECTION personified.

Its airiness, composition, symmetry and movement seems effortless and natural.

There isn’t a single aspect of this piece that could be improved upon.

The classic green serpentine stone is so refined and smooth. Cool to the touch.

The orange inset eyes contrast so beautifully against the green that the bird appears to be alive and charged with spirit.

THIS piece will find its way into a national (WAG) or even an international museum (MOMA) in the future.

It could easily be seen as the penultimate Sharky sculpture. Like Andy Warhol’s Campbell soup tin.

If you share my very visceral reaction to this piece; if your jaw dropped or you find yourself drawn back repeatedly just to look?

Then do not hesitate....

If you do, you will be disappointed.

Toonoo’s stunning Bird is nothing short of one of the best investments you will ever make within your art wealth portfolio.

Having a piece like this in your home or office - quite simply - makes a STATEMENT.

This piece will bring you joy forever.

The carving is signed on the bottom by Toonoo Sharky and comes with the Tag of Authenticity.

Toonoo Sharky (1970 - )

"Toonoo's parents, Josephee Sharky and Ragee Killiktee, were both carvers, though he credits his grandfather, master carver Kuppapik Ragee and his uncle Shorty Killiktee as influences. Toonoo started carving at ten, began to get serious at thirteen and first exhibited when he was just 17. He is regarded as one of the most exciting young carvers to emerge in the Arctic. His themes include fanciful and quite dramatic treatment of wildlife, particularly birds, and transformational works that are both powerful and humorous. His work is widely shown, and he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy in 2003." *
