Jimmy Iqaluq (from Sanikiluaq) is one of the most renowned and established Inuit artists alive.  Art galleries around the world eagerly seek out his carvings.  He has been carving for almost 40 years and has had innumerable international exhibitions. His iconic loon is the inspiration for our inuitsculptures.com logo.

Iqaluq is a very adventurous artist. He loves to be challenged.  His preference is to carve dogs, wolves, fox, loons, ducks and polar bears. His vignette carvings are exquisite in their detail and the stories they tell.  

All of Jimmy’s carvings are masterpieces and are highly valued.

This perfect Ptarmigan is planted firmly on the tundra, warming herself in the sun.  The Ptarmigan is a member of the grouse family and is the official bird for Nunavut.  It is also the official game bird for Newfoundland and Labrador.

I love the detailed feathering on Jimmy’s Ptarmigan.  In certain views, they appear to be “scales” which gives the piece a prehistoric visage. As if she were an Arctic pterodactyl!

This would be a good introductory sculpture to add to a new Inuit art collection.  It also would be a unique addition to a grander collection.
